DIY Patio Kits For The DIY Enthusiast – What You Need To Know

Here in Perth, a patio is pretty much a staple item for the backyard. Once the warm weather kicks in, families love to spend their downtime outside – playing, gardening, reading and of course having a BBQ lunch or sundowner. And, with temperatures soaring to the high 30s in the summer months, shaded protection is essential. In addition to the practical benefits, patios can improve the aesthetics of your outdoor space and also add value to your home.

Of course, we recommend calling in the experts to professionally install your new patio. However, if you are looking to keep costs down and are a DIY enthusiast, our DIY Patio Kits could be the perfect solution for you.

What is a DIY Patio?

JB Patios’ DIY Patio Kits have been created to make building your new patio a breeze. They contain all the materials you need and a set of comprehensive instructions. Specifically, each kit contains:

  • Powder-coated frame – pre-cut and pre-drilled with all the bracket spacings ready to go
  • Trusses – fully welded and pre-drilled
  • ColorBond® gutters
  • ColorBond® roof sheeting
  • ColorBond® downpipes and flashings
  • Tek screws, pop rivets, rafter brackets and bolts
  • Easy to follow install instructions

We have a range of sizes and colours available, and our staff are available to advise you on the best kit to suit your needs.

Council approvals

A patio without a building permit is like a driver without a license! Any patio that is attached to a building or any freestanding patio greater than 10 metres2 requires a building permit from your local council.

The team at JB Patio will assist you with this process!

We will complete the BA2 form and required plans for your building permit application. All we ask from you is your patience, as it can take councils some time to process the paperwork.

Choosing the right DIY patio

If you are after a larger patio to shade an area where the family can spend time, say for an alfresco or play area, we recommend choosing a gable patio. They are often referred to as peaked-roof patios as they form a peak at the apex of the structure. Our DIY Gable Patio Kits are available in a range of sizes and can be freestanding or attached to your home.

If you’re looking for a patio to protect your footpaths, driveway, or shade your windows, flat roof patios provide a practical and stylish solution. Our DIY Flat Roof Patio Kits can be configured to cover any area around your home, creating a functional space that will add value to your home and lifestyle.
